Life science

Life science is one of the major branches of science. It comprises of fields of science that involve the scientific study of living organism and human beings. Life science is vital in improving the quality and standard of life.
Life science has a lot of topics of study but the major include the following:
  • Anatomy
  • Botany
  • Cell biology
  • Microbiology
  • Ecology
  • Immunology
  • Pathology
  • Pharmacology

    Anatomy

This is the scientific study of parts of animals. Anatomy can be divided into two categories: macroscopic anatomy and microscopic anatomy. Macroscopic anatomy is the study of structures that can be seen by unaided vision with the naked eye, when suitably presented or dissected. Microscopic anatomy is the study of structures that cannot be viewed with the naked eye. One has to use a microscope in order to view the structures

Botany

Also referred to as plant science. It is the scientific study of plants and plant life. Botany encompasses study the growth, replica, metabolism, diseases and evolution of plants.

Cell biology

Cell biology is also referred to as cytology. It is the scientific study of the cell. This study involves the study of the physiological properties, structure, organelles, relationships, life cycle, division and death of cells. Cell biology covers both single celled and multicellular organisms.

Microbiology
It is the scientific study of microscopic organisms, single celled(unicellular), multicellular or acellular(lacking cells). Microbiology is divided into two major divisions: pure and applied microbiology.

Ecology

It is a branch of life science that studies the relationship among organisms and their environment. Topics that ecologists tend to explore under ecology include of the diversity, distribution, biomass, population of organisms and competition between organisms within and among ecosystems. Mostly ecologists seek to expound on life processes, interactions and variations, the movement of materials and energy through living communities, the development of ecosystems and additionally the amount and distribution of organisms.

Immunology

It is a branch of biomedical science that covers the study of all aspects of the immune system in all organisms. Immunology deals with the defence mechanisms of the organism that help an organism to fight its susceptibility to foreign organisms.

Pathology

This is the scientific study and diagnosis of diseases in organism, through examination of tissues, organs, body fluids and the whole body. Pathology is divided into major nine divisions which consist of: anatomical, chemical, clinical, forensic, genetic, general, hematology, immunopathology and microbiology.

Pharmacology

This is the scientific study of the actions of the drug in an organism. Pharmacology tends to expound more on the drug composition and properties, synthesis and drug design. This field is divided into two major categories: pharmacodynamics and pharmacokinetics.
